Spelling Bee Dates 2019-2010

Friday, October 11, lunchtime (room 405)
    • 4th grade written qualifying test
    • 5th grade written qualifying test  

Wednesday, October 23, 8AM (room 405)
    • 4th grade spelling bee

Friday, November 8, 8am (room 405)
                                                                     • 5th grade spelling bee

Students will have until Monday, September 30 to register.

Spelling Bee Information 2019-2010

PS11 will offer two spelling bees for 4th and 5th Graders!

Depending on the number of students, participants may take a grade-specific qualifying test on Friday, October 11th during lunch period.

The top ten 4th grade students will compete in a 4th Grade Spelling Bee at 8:00 am on October 23rd. Parents are welcome to attend.

The top ten 5th grade students and top two finishers from the 4th Grade Spelling Bee will compete in our School Spelling Bee on Friday, November 8th at 8:00 am.

The top three 5th grade finishers at our School Spelling Bee will advance to the Manhattan District Spelling Bee in early 2020, where they will have the opportunity to qualify for the Daily News New York Citywide Spelling Bee (a qualifier for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. that will take place in May 2020).

Spelling Bee Results

Maximilian was the sole representative from PS 11 William T Harris School at the 2019 Manhattan Spelling Bee sponsored by NYC DOE Department of Education, competing against 5th through 8th graders from 24 Manhattan elementary and middle schools, including Hunter College Elementary School, Hunter College High School, The Anderson School, New Explorations Into Science Technology & Math, Tag Young Scholars, NYC Lab MS for Collaborative Studies, JHS 54 Booker T Washington, and PS 77 Lower Lab School, among others.

Max reached the Fifth Round of the 2019 Manhattan Spelling Bee. He was among the last two fifth graders standing, and among the last 15 students standing from a total of 60 contestants, narrowly missing the top 10 who advanced to the Citywide New York Daily News Spelling Bee.

5th Grade Spelling Bee Results

The two 4th Grade participants performed extraordinarily well and went on to win the top two spots. 1st place went to Alikhan while Akshay took home the 2nd place trophy. Maximilian was the last 5th Grader to remain standing and took 3rd place in the spelling bee.

Maximilian will be joined by Elisa and Ptolemy as all three move on to the local area spelling bee.

 

4th Grade Spelling Bee Results

CONGRATULATIONS to all 27 of our 4th Grade spelling bee participants and our winners!

After a qualifying test, 10 finalists competed in our Fourth-Grade Spelling Bee on October 24th.

Akshay came in 1st place and Alikhan came in 2nd place. Our top two finishers have the opportunity to join fifth graders in the PS11 School Spelling Bee on Thursday, November 8th at 6:15 pm in the auditorium. Join us!
