Spelling Bee 2021 Winners!

PS 11 has found our spelling bee champion! 5th Grader Mrittika will advance to the regional bee! 

The spelling bee was held on January 13, 2021, with a Tiebreaker Bee held for the top 2 spellers on January 26, 2021. Congratulations to 4th Grader Emerson who came in 2nd place!

Rather than a live Bee, this year's Bee used the Scripps Spelling Bee Online Platform only, and the Regional Bee will be held online as well. 

Please join us in congratulating Mrittika, and wishing her luck in the Regional Bee!

Sign up for the 2020-2021 Spelling Bee!

PS 11 is looking for its next spelling bee champion! 

The spelling bee will be held on January 13, 2021 (there may be a preliminary round, depending on how many students are interested).

The school and regional spelling bees will take place using the Scripps Spelling Bee Online Platform only.

The regional spelling bee date has not yet been published.

If you are interested in participating in this year's PS 11 Spelling Bee, please register by e-mailing your full name (first and last name), grade and classroom to ps11chelsea.bee@gmail.com by December 18, 2020.

Registration information to the online platform will be e-mailed to parents after December 18th.

PS 11 Qualifies at the Manhattan Spelling Bee! 

Avery, Akshay and AnnabelCould they BEE more amazing?  Fifth graders Avery, Akshay and Annabel competed for four hours at  the 2020 Manhattan Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Akshay who made it to the Top 10 and will represent PS 11 in the Citywide New York Daily News Spelling Bee in March. His winning word was OLIGARCHY. Annabel had a strong showing just missing the top ten by one round.  They competed against 5th through 8th graders from 22 Manhattan elementary and middle schools, including Hunter College Elementary School, Hunter College High School, The Anderson School, Tag Young Scholars, NYC Lab MS, PS 33 Chelsea Prep, JHS 54 Booker T Washington, and PS 77 Lower Lab School, among others.

PS11 Spelling Bee W-I-N-N-E-R-S!!!

We have two co-champions for the PS 11 spelling bee! Fourth grader Indira and fifth grader Akshay sailed through the tie breaker words to emerge in first place. It was an incredible performance by both spellers. Fourth grader Katherine took the second spot and Annabel was third. As per the rules the top fifth grade winners (Akshay, Annabel and Avery)  will represent the school at the City Bee! A huge congratulations to the winners and to the other finalists, Nina, Alikhan, Avery, William, Clara, Lyla, and Ruby!

W-I-N-N-E-R-S! Fourth Grade Spelling Bee Champions

The fourth grade spelling has two winners! After several exciting and stressful rounds, fourth grader Indira spelt "explore" to cinch the title. After the initial written round, the nine finalists

competed in the live Bee with a strong showing. In a nail-biting finish, Kathryn took second place and Indira took first. The two champions will compete in the fifth grade spelling bee to be held on November 8.
