MLK Day Chess at PS11!

Braving single digit temperatures, NYC’s chess obsessed kids packed into PS11 for the annual MLK day CIS tournament. We had huge success with two of our teams placing third  —in the Rookie and in the Novice section. Fourth grader Eisa topped the Rookie section with a perfect score. Hilda placed fifth and Sabella took sixth in the novice section. First graders Anay and Gary scored medals. Another amazing weekend for the chessmates!

Our fourth grade team (Viggo, Sabella and Joshua), placed ninth in the country and our first grade team (Elliott, Anay, Silas, Indiana, Gary and Oliver) came in Eighth overall. Our PS 11 team included many 1st time National competitors who rose to the occasion and delivered very impressive results. Individual trophy winners with five points included first grader Elliott and third grader Avaan who also placed 9th in the country in the K-6 Blitz section. A big shout out to the other team members, Stanley, Nanao, Ali, Indira, Liev and Alexander, all of whom played amazing chess and showed incredible team spirit this weekend. Next stop for the Chessmates is the New York City Championship on January 5 and 6th.
