Clinton Middle School Open House
Clinton Middle School will be holding Open Houses on October 13th, 20th, & 27th at 6:00 PM. You must register here. You do not need to email anyone if you decide to cancel.
This is an opportunity to attend an open house with your 5th grader. We are an expanding 6-12 school, with 9th and 10th graders currently in our Upper Grades Program and 6th-8th in our Middle Grades Program.
PLEASE NOTE: Students will meet with students, and parents will meet with parents. If you will need to leave by a certain time, please tell your child what time he/she needs to meet you in the lobby before the event.
Our academic program is built around the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, for which we are a candidate. Students complete the Regents required for their NYS high school diploma in 9th and 10th grades. This allows students to participate in the IB Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grades. The IB Diploma Programme is an academically and developmentally challenging curriculum, and it is used around the world. For more information, see http://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/
We may be a good fit for your child if you are looking for:
- A liberal arts education that supports students who are interested in pursuing university programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, and math.
- Student-driven clubs and sports including volleyball, cross country, soccer, basketball, Model UN, The Clinton Post, Chess, The Soup (literary magazine), SETA, GSA, and Student Council.
- A newly constructed building in an easliy accessible location.
We may not be a good fit for your child if you are looking for:
- Advanced Placement (AP) courses or Advanced Regents Diplomas. We are pursuing IB authorization.
- A program exclusively for gifted and talented students. We have a heterogenous group of learners, and believe that all students should have access to our rich curriculum.
- Three years of foreign language in the middle school.
- The flexibility and choices that a large school offers.
For admissions, priority to Clinton students who reside in District 2, or attend a District 2 elementary school.
Admissions Process
This year, as Clinton has become increasingly popular, we have made some adjustments to our selection process. Please read this carefully, and decide if Clinton is the right fit for your family and if you would like to apply.
1. Of the students who rank us first only, we will invite in four times the number of applicants as we have available seats (400 for general education, 50 for special education).
2. We will select these students based on the following rubric: 28% attendance/punctuality, 47% 4th grade report card and 25% NYS ELA/Math Scores from 4th grade. In the event of no scores, we will redistribute the percentages so students can still be invited in if they opted out or are from out of state/private school.
3. Students invited in with complete a math assessment, ela assessment and group interview. Those points will be ADDED to the original total. We will then rank students and submit our list to the Office of Student Enrollment, who make the final match list.
Your middle school liaison can give you more information about the District as a whole, and if Clinton is a good first choice for you and your child.
