PS11 Garden

Garden Work Day
Saturday, April 27th 10am-2pm
Come out, celebrate Earth Day and help clean up our garden for spring. Activities will include painting the garden fence, composting, cleaning up tree planters, planting annuals and general clean up. Children are welcome with adult supervision.

The mission of the PS11 Garden is to provide students at the school with a healthy learning environment where they can connect with the natural world. The PS11 Garden is a beautiful addition to the PS11 Elementary School. The garden is comprised of two areas: a green environment surrounding the playground and a large second floor sunny roof space. Downstairs in the big yard is where the reading garden, butterfly garden, shade gardens, composting area and rainbarrels are found. There are also raised beds growing food and vertical growing edible and flowering plants there. The roof area upstairs holds many self-irrigating containers which grow vegetables and fruits. The students participate in every aspect of the garden accompanied by their teachers, parents and school staff.

Garden volunteers from the PTA fund garden supplies and come up with activities that students and teachers can do in the school garden. Garden volunteers also perform maintenance in the garden. For more information about the garden and how to participate, contact the PS11 Garden Commitee via email at ps11garden@gmail.com or see the PS11 Garden Blog at ps11garden.wordpress.com.
